There is a reason photographers come to the southern Arizona high desert to shoot its sunrises and sunsets. They are spectacular. But often ignored, yet even more striking, is the pre-dawn belt of venus. Arching through the civil twilight sky in a euphoric show of ecstasy, her spectral shades of pink and purple compels a soul to reassess its previous notions of beauty. Her brief appearance is the foreshadow that signals the renewal of daylights birth.

This morning, with the seasons waning crescent moon a thin sliver in the blue-black sky, I stood silent in a field and watched the day begin. As I traverse this season of loss in my life, I find these moments of renewal all the more powerful and uplifting. They empower each day with a transcendent knowledge in the omnipotent power of my creator. They inform my being with the understanding that even in sadness there can be beauty and joy. For that, I am eternally blessed and grateful.

I remain His scribe.
