Early Morning on the Penobscot River
6:41 AM. In the calm of early morning I view Katahdin, her reflection mirrored in this peaceful eddy of the Penobscot River. The sun has just started to illuminate the flanks I had so gruelingly climbed the previous four days. My muscles ached. My blisters burned. My joints throbbed. I could not have been happier. I could not have been more content than I was in this moment of serenity before the raging rapid storm that awaited us.
