Swainson's at the Pond

Swainson's at the Pond

Life in southern Arizona is an incredible combination of the serenely mundane punctuated by periodic moments of marvelous spectacle. That's what it was like this morning. In the front yard, baby bunnies grazed contentedly while four young Cactus Wrens scampered about in a keystone cop comedy of learning to forage. In the back, a local Swainson's Hawk decided our pond would make a perfect place to grab a quick drink. This is the second hawk to stop by our watering hole; the first was a couple of months ago when a Zone-tailed dropped by.

There are mountains to traverse, trails to roam, birds of every kind to find and photograph in this little section of paradise, but sometimes its hard to leave the phenom happening right here in our yard. I would say that qualifies as Life is Good.
