Of course, there is a story when I get this close to a wild owl. This EASO decided to nest in an eye-level hole in a tree not ten feet from the main path leading from the Ding-Darling Office to the trail. It was actually assigned a permanent guard to prevent people from trying to stick go-pro cameras in the hole.

We were standing on the path, behind a guard rail, when we found the bird. At the time, the guard was off, and at least 20 people walked right by it - that is how camouflaged they are. If you look in the owls eyes, you can see the reflection of Cindy and me. It was a once in a lifetime experience.
