Northern Saw-whet Owl I
At just 6 inches tall the Northern Saw-whet Owl is one of the smallest North American owls. This could be why it has taken me four years to see one finally. A master of camouflage this is a bird that can remain invisible in plain sight. While we knew exactly where to find this owl two of us looked right past it above our heads. This shot is heavily backlit which gives the owl an eerie white halo. That came from having to shoot it straight up while lying flat on my back. It was an absolutely incredible experience.
