Muskrat at Lord Sterling Park

Muskrat at Lord Sterling Park

While not the fanciest, or most glamorous of the forest creatures, the Muskrat has a beauty all its own. An important resident of the local marshes, it is also the pivotal character in many Native American creation stories.

I had never seen one before this day and probably still not have had not Cindy, with her eagle eyes, spotted it and called me over.

As the animal remained motionless on the fallen log, Cindy and I slowly crept closer. We had the impression that it thought it was fully camouflaged, allowing us to get within ten feet before it stirred and we moved back. It was great for me - it's always nice to have a posing subject.

I hope you enjoy.
