Standing on the fringes of a violent storm, watching it unfold around you, is a unique and addictive experience. The raw power unleashed is enough to make even the most strong personality feel small and humble in its presence. I must admit that as much as I crave the adrenalin release from the chase and capture, I also seek the humility of being such a tiny element of that magnificent whole.
I think in many ways it is the humility I feel being in the presence of His creation that draws me to the type of photography I practice. Whether it is standing under the grandeur of our Milky Way as it stretches overhead to eternity, or the powerlessness of being present during a raging storm, I am humbled. In those moments of basking in the peaceful quiet of a new days birth or standing breathless to absorb the serene sanctity of the days ends gloaming, I am humbled. For a man who has spent his entire life letting his ego run the show, such humility is precious.
It is here, in the high desert of southern Arizona that I have found such grace. It is here that my passion is rewarded and heart resides. It is here that I, in great humility, share the gift of His creation. I remain His scribe.
