In a five by five formation, as the sun sets upon them, these valiant defenders of liberty now rest. The tear-shaped columbaria at the Southern Veterans Memorial Cemetary evoked such a proud sadness upon me as I took this image. One can imagine these soldiers in life; noble, strong, heroic and dedicated to a cause, as they served our country from the World Wars through our recent fights. On this Memorial Day weekend, at this is the most hallowed ground, a person can reflect on the greatness that is our freedom, and the awful cost it has demanded from those who defend it.

This image is the second of four or five commemorative photos I shot between the Fort Huachuca Cemetary and the Southern Arizona Memorial Cemetary in Sierra Vista.
