To gaze into the night is it see the glory of the unbound infinite. To focus on its details is to observe the mighty hand of God's exceptional artistry. I know of little else that frames our position in the universe more than the witness of night. For me, this makes even more powerful the unconditional love and forgiveness our creator bestows on each of us. Accepting that grace is the foundation of true humility.
As one wanders through the southern Arizona high desert night, they are likely to see many personal observatories in the backyards of its residents. As one of the country's most reliable and accessible dark sky regions, the desert is a magnet for those whose passion lies in observing the miracle of night. Whether it is the overpowering majesty of the fully bloomed Milky Way or the unprecedented glory of the individual nebula and star clusters that light the darkness, this is a place to be awed in wonder. Since I first started capturing the Milky Way, I have dreamed of getting a photo of the Orion Nebula. Sitting just under Orion's Belt, those easily viewed three aligned stars in the southeastern sky, the Orion Nebula is also known as the beginner's nebula. It earned that name as the brightest and most straightforward to see. Last night was my chance to fulfill my dream and begin my journey into the world of profound space photography. I cannot wait to see what this adventure brings.
I am deeply grateful to Peter Zelinka for his help in this capture. His youtube channel and website offer unparalleled free deep-sky photography advice. He also produces online tutorials for a reasonable price plus workshops to learn first hand. I emailed him with technical questions before my shoot, which he graciously answered.
In this, and all things, I remain His scribe.
