The pathway of freedom is paved with the headstones of those fallen heroes who sacrificed all in defense of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. Last night it seemed that the lights of their souls shone just a bit more brightly along the trail of angels. Each effervescent twinkle a reminder that they were still on guard.

On a perfectly manicured plot of sacred ground in the southern Arizona high desert, I realized that there is no higher duty to serve than the one I feel when remembering that each free breath I take was paid for by such a high price. In humble subservience to the memory of each fallen hero, and to the Father who now watches over their souls, I gratefully remain a scribe.
