Back in the Northeast, we would always get very excited when the Scarlet Tanagers came in. I can see myself feeling the same way, cubed, about our southeastern compliment of Hepatic, Western and Summer Tanagers. Yesterday I got my best look yet at a nesting pair of Hepatic Tanagers.

While the female, in her yellow coat, stayed close to the nest, this male scurried amongst the nearby trees picking off bugs, mostly bees, for a lunchtime treat. I am looking forward to tracking this pair and hope they enjoy a successful hatch.
