I can think of no other inhabitant of J.N Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge that evokes as much awe and wonders as the Roseate Spoonbill. Unique and anomalous in its pink plumage and Jimmy Durante schnozzola they are a favorite of all. One has only to spy the long line of parked cars and long lens photographers to know which pool the flock is currently residing in. The summer population is significantly smaller, with most of the members having migrated out. In fact, of three visits to the refuge this trip, we only enjoyed the blessing of their company once.

This bird captured my attention as it seemingly gazed at its reflection in the calm retention pool. I imagine it saying "you are a handsome, handsome bird!" (It was lifting its head after having dipped its bill, but that is not nearly as entertaining)
