It was overcast and gloomy on the ridge at Garrett Mountain Reservation at 6:00 am this morning. The massive influx of last week had dwindled to an occasional migrant coming through the tree tops. A little disappointed, I was about to pack it in when this flamboyantly bright Scarlett Tanager popped his head out of the blossoms. Everything about my mood turned around at the point. It is hard to be grumpy when confronted by such beauty.
