I am a birder. I spend my spare time looking in trees, shrubs, lakes, oceans, tall grass, and anywhere else I believe there might be a bird about. Some, many in fact, see this as a strange pastime. I think they do not understand the great beauty and wonder that the fantastic spectrum of birds represents. It is my job to teach them ;)

But while I am very aware that the pastime of looking at birds - birding - might seem strange, it never occurred to me that the birds might be engaging in their own viewing experience - people'ing. That is until I met this typically reclusive Mangrove Cuckoo out on a branch ticking off the humans below it.

I imagine on this day it got a guido with a big lens (me), along with six or seven other photographer species, one rare birder on a bike species, and at least a dozen different ticks of the ever elusive, continually moving, people that randomly stop big metal things on the hard black stuff that used to be dirt species. I wonder if it reported them on ePeople?
