Deer in a Wet Lens
Rain is a part of nature and for those of us whose passion trends towards capturing wildlife and nature landscapes it is a regular hazard. Personally, I don't mind the rain. I often actually enjoy it. My only concerns being the gear that I am carrying, especially when I don't have any rain covers with me.
On this morning, I happened to get caught in a brief, but steady spring shower. Not enough to send me running from the woods, but enough to wet most of my kit.
As I headed back to the trailhead I was blessed to cross paths with this deer. While seeing deer is a frequent occurrence, to this city boy they still hold a special beauty and fascination. Not wanting to miss the opportunity, I slowly crouched down while raising my camera. What I saw through the viewfinder was a water diffused landscape. Wildlife doesn't often give you a long view, and this deer was already showing signs of alarm, so cleaning the lens was not an option. I snapped off some pix for the minute my model gave me before heading to new pastures. I had no idea what the shots would look like when I finally downloaded them.
I am happy with the result. The diffused effect of the rain softens the wilderness and allows a unique perspective on the doe.
I hope you enjoy it as well.
