Sunset at the Red Mill Dam
The best weekends are the ones when Dad visits. I will complain unceasingly about the drive to Long Island to get him, and even more about the drive to bring him back. But, the truth is that I love when he is here and will do anything to make it happen. So it was that Dad was over this weekend and wanted to see the rare Neotropic Cormorant that was hanging about in Clinton.
Having only been to the town once before, yesterday actually, to get a picture of the Cormorant, I had promised myself that on the next visit I would bring the kit to shoot the Mill and the Falls over the dam. It is the type of perfect Americana that I dream of finding, and I wanted to capture it for posterity.
We got a late start. It was 5:30pm when we left started to thirty-minute drive. Arriving as dusk settled in, we were disappointed at not finding the bird. Still, the light was perfect, so I pressed on with plan B.
I find peace when I look at this picture. It removes me from our modern race and transports me to a simpler time. That I was able to share it with my Dad and my love makes it even more serene for me.
I hope you can feel that too.
