There is no defense against natures fury. In the end, the power of His creation will always defeat the power of humanity's folly. At best, we learn to co-exist in a symbiotic armistice that benefits both. An entire genre of movies has been created to illustrate this truth.

In Japanese Kaiju films, the monsters are always colossal, dwarfing all the buildings, and fiercely determined to destroy all man-made objects in their path. Whether through sheer size, or adapted weapons, the beasts run havoc until mankind finds either a defense or means of treaty with the beasts. The movies often end with a shared victory that serves as a cleansing of sins for our treatment of our natural surroundings.

This is what I was reminded of when I uncovered this image from a recent southern Arizona high desert monsoon. The lightning seems to be transformed into a Kaiju, intent on walking across the clear fields on the right towards the defenseless homes on the left. If I were to create a story around this scene, I would name the Kaiju Rakurai (落雷) which translates to Lightning Stike. The metaphor a the dual purpose of the strike is totally fitting to me.

God unveils His story through the nature that surrounds me. My goal is to capture and share the glory of that story with as many as I can. I remain His scribe.
