I believe the Broad-billed Hummingbird is one of the most underappreciated, and misnamed, of all the US hummers. An effervescent gem of shimmering blue, green, purple and red, this aggressive Humminbird often dominates the feeders.
We see many Broad-billed Hummers at the Mary Jo Ballator Nature Sanctuary. While I have not done a count, they may be the most numerous of all the hummers currently present. This one was scanning the neighborhood in a rare moment of peaceful perching on a branch above our heads. It soon flew off to claim a feeder for its own.
God has created the most exceptional artwork on the planet and allowed me the privilege of photographing and sharing its wonder. I remain His scribe.
