A wildfire somewhere in the Mexican Sonoran desert provided the hazy shadows that gave tonights moonrise its ethereal glow. Knowing that the devastating force of the fire ravaging the landscape created the effect did not diminish the scene. The high desert of southern Arizona is a constant battle of harsh life and death struggles. It is this caustic certainty that contributes to the beauty of this land. There is no promise of a comfortable life here, no warrant that offers absolute ease. Here, It is in the survival story that surrounds one that a person learns perspective and joy.

Tonight, I write the words that accompany the stunning beauty I witness and try to portray in my images with the feeling of an empty guff. Tonight, I am weary and disappointed. Tonight, the fire has ravaged my landscape, and it is difficult to feel His light. But I know it is there, replenishing and healing me even before I let it. His gift of renewal is unlimited in its bounty. I have but to accept it. I do not share my melancholy in search of counsel or advice. Rather, I share it as a power of example in my certainty that while the present moment might not feel good, it will pass, its destiny to be a low to measure the highs against. In sharing my life, I, hopefully, contribute to the betterment of others. And that is my mission. I remain His scribe.
