Cochises Sunset

Cochises Sunset

Legend has it that the Chiricahua Apache leader Cochise met with US military officials at Cochise Council in the Dragoon Mountains to sign the treaty that gave them the Dragoons (Cochise Stronghold) as native land. While the agreement is historically factual, I have no way of knowing if the Council was where it was signed. What I do know is that the Apaches used this place as an encampment. The pictographs, firepits, and metates attest to this.

As I stood at this ancient place and watched the sun descend I could only imagine the nightly beauty the original inhabitants must have enjoyed. Some say Arizona is the "shades of brown and gray" State. I disagree. It is a land of sublime beauty available to anyone that takes the time to see it.
