Green Kingfisher II

Green Kingfisher II

We were so fortunate to finally find the female Green Kingfisher (life bird) yesterday. We spotted her upstream (south) from her usual spot; about 100 yards from the bridge. We watched as she continued upstream until we lost sight after she flew under the bridge - where she perched on a log to pose for the image below.

The Green Kingfisher is a Neotropic resident whose northernmost boundary touches Southern Arizona, Texas and New Mexico. Small, fast and well camouflaged on the sides of rivers, the bird is a prized observation by most birders.
